The Zajac engine technology is comprised of compression and expansion cylinders with custom designed valves (one set of cylinders for intake/compression and another set for power/exhaust), and a separate “hot wall” combustion chamber.
These Zajac head parts are compatible with any standard Diesel engine block. Today’s Diesel engine manufacturers can adopt and integrate this new technology with minimal manufacturing and retooling costs.
Step 1: Intake and Compression Air intake is controlled and compressed in this cylinder using the Zajac process and valve cycle. Separating the compression cylinder from the combustion chamber allows the Zajac engine’s compression ratio to be 40% greater than a standard gasoline engine’s, yielding higher efficiency. The precise valve cycle ensures that at the optimal time and pressure, the air is released into the combustion chamber. Zajac Motors has pending and issued patents for this unique process.
Step 2: Combustion The patent pending combustion chamber’s size, shape and space-tested insulating materials create a hot walled environment where fuel, air, and pressure can be maintained at a constant temperature. The size of this energy storage chamber also extends the length of time that the fuel is held resident in the combustion chamber – 10 to 100 times longer than in a traditional engine. This results in a clean and complete burn. Complete combustion virtually eliminates the production of CO, unburned hydrocarbons, soot (partially burned hydrocarbons), and NOx. By completely burning all of the fuel, the maximum amount of energy is extracted and translated into usable power delivering 50% greater fuel efficiency over gasoline engines. Additional optional pneumatic hybrid technology increases the fuel efficiency an additional 65% providing a combined net fuel efficiency increase of 147%. This means that a Zajac pneumatic hybrid engine can travel 247% as far on a gallon of gasoline than a standard gasoline engine.
Step 3: Power and Exhaust In the power and exhaust cylinder, the Zajac engine’s effective power stroke is longer and can be as much as 220% that of a standard engine. This difference is significant, as a standard engine exhausts its gases before they are fully expanded, thus making noise and wasting power. With Zajac technology, gas is exhausted near atmospheric pressure, reducing waste and minimizing noise.
And an added bonus... The Zajac engine is completely independent of the type of fuel used, running with equally high efficiency on gasoline, Diesel, fuel oil, natural gas, propane, bio-Diesel, and ethanol. These different fuels cause no change in performance, power output, or cleanliness. The fuels may be mixed or changed on the fly without any engine modification. The only affect of changing fuels is that the amount of energy contained in each type of fuel will impact miles-per-gallon figures.
